Spanish Super Cup: FC Barcelona 3-0 Atletico Bilbao (5-1 aggregate)

Following a 2-1 win away from home in the first leg of the Spanish Super Cup against Atletico Bilbao, FC Barcelona’s men were poised stamp their authority over the Basques.

Indeed, it was really the case, as they managed to win the Spanish Super Cup thanks to a 3-0 win at the Camp Nou yesterday.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henry both had chances to put the home side in front midway trough the first half, but both failed to on their occasions.

Despite a goalless first half, Barcelona came back stronger to start punishing their opponents’ sloppy defence. Messi first opened the scoring after a superb individual effort to make the score line 1-0, placing the ball past the Bilbao keeper from a tight angle.

Barcelona were then awarded a controversial penalty, but still, Messi converted nicely from the penalty spot.

The game could have ended 2-0 for the Catalans, but a poor back pass coming from the Bilbao defence allowed Bojan to steal the ball before rounding-up the keeper, only to take his time before making the score 3-0.

Barcelona’s Pep Guardiola has now won his side’s first trophy after last season, and he will hope to get one more, when the Spanish Super Cup Champions come up against Shakhtar Donetsk in the UEFA Super Cup, come August 28.

Congratulations FC Barcelona and Lionel Messi!
