Lionel Messi recently spoke to Marca, talking about his partnership with the Swedish International, Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

According to him, he is ready to get to the new phase with Ibra, putting behind him the old days while he used to play with former Barcelona striker, Samuel Eto’o.

“We will work and not think about comparisons at all. I think they are two different players, and should not be compared. Now is the beginning of a new era with Ibrahimovic, and hopefully one with much joy.”

Being asked on his combination with Zlatan during the Joan Gamper Trophy friendly match against Manchester City on August 19, Messi said:

“It was good. Obviously it was our first game and we have had a few training sessions together.

“Gradually we will understand more, and I have to know his movements. He has to know mine for further understanding.”

Messi also spoke ahead of the Barcelona’s Spanish Super Cup second leg encounter against Atletico Bilbao this sunday.

“It will be difficult but we must continue in the same way as we did last year.”
