Lionel Messi Sets New Records in Barcelona 3-1 Champions League Victory Over AC Milan
The 3-1 victory over AC Milan last night not only led El Barca to the Champions League semi-finals round, but also helped them to set a number of new records.
For Lionel Messi, his 2 goals has added to his Champions League goal collection into 14, (51 in his total CL career), that also crowned him as the youngest footballer that marked his 50th goal in the competition.
Until now, only 5 players have made it over 50 goals – Fillipo Inzaghi(50 gol), Thierry Henry (51 gol), Andriy Shevchenko (59 gol), Ruud van Nistelrooy (60 gol), and Raul Gonzalez (71 gol). Messi came as the 6th players, with 51 goals, and still more to come.
With the goals, he also became first player in Champions League history to reach 14 goals. Before, Jose Alfatini from Milan club also reach 14 goals back in 1962/63 when it was still called “European Cup”. But since the competition is not yet over, Messi might be able to add his goal collection.
As for the club, the match versus AC Milan helped Barca to reach the Champions League semi-finals round 5 years in a row. It also marked Pep’s 50th Champions League match as Barcelona’s coach for the last 4 years, and became Dani Alves 200th match with Barcelona.
