Lionel Messi scored a goal for Barcelona as Pep Guardiola’s side took a 4-1 victory over Athletic Bilbao at the Camp Nou on Saturday, March 3..
Barcelona are now on top of La Liga standings with 77 points – 3 points ahead of their archrivals Real Madrid who have 74 points.
For diverse reasons, the Barcelona line-up excluded the names of a few key players; among which were the names of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Andres Iniesta and Dani Alves.
Even so, the power of the Azulgrana remained as solid ever.
As usual, Lionel Messi’s Blaugrana was able to dominate the match from the beginning.
What made this game interesting was Pep Guardiola’s strategy to set a different combination of players in the attack: Lionel Messi, Bojan Krkic, and Jeffren Suarez.
Short passes between the line kept running smoothly. Attacks after attacks demoralized Athletic Bilbao who were under great pressure.
Barca created the first goal on 27 minutes through Suarez 5 minutes before the break, and on 59 minute, Bojan Krkic doubled the lead.
Bojan made the score line 3-0 later on, and Lionel Messi then increase his tally in La Liga to 26 goals by adding his name to the scoring sheet.
Susaeta from Bilbao minimized the deficit for the away side by stealing a consolation on 77 minutes.
This was a perfect victory for Barcelona.
