Lionel Messi Got Praised in Argentina's Failure Against Bolivia
Barcelona defenders Dani Alves has said that despite being the world’s best player, Lionel Messi couldn’t help Argentina to win Copa America 2011, without the help of his team.
Argentina is putting their hope in Messi, who reach success with his club Barcelona, and that maybe it’ll follow with the same success in his national team.
However, the match is played with 11 players, and it’s almost impossible for one player to win a match alone. Dani Alves was being reasonable by saying that, judging the result of Argentina opening match against Bolivia that had to end with a 1-1 draw. On the match, Messi couldn’t perform optimal because he didn’t get enough ball supply from his team mate.
But despite the Tango team received critics from their performance, President of Argentina Football Association Julio Grondona still praised the Barcelona striker, Messi. According to him, Messi still looks good wherever he plays.
“Messi is always playing good, never bad. The problem is the players around him,”said Grondona.
He judges that since Messi couldn’t get enough of ball supplies, he had to reach the back to get it.
With the draw results, Argentina is now stands in second position in Group A with 1 point, while Colombia stands in the top place after winning over Costa Rica 1-0.
For the match, Argentina coach Sergio Batista actually tried to use the same style as Barcelona, by playing 3 of Barcelona’s players, such as Macherano, Messi, and Milito as a starter. But still, they failed the mission to adapt the tiki taka football style.
“It’s very difficult to play like Barcelona. It’s true, too many distractions and direct attact is not what we want,” explained Batista.
“Moreover, Bolivia continues their pressure, and strengthen their defense. With vertical attack like we played, it didn’t went according to plan. But we’ll fix it,” added Batista.
