Lionel Messi Goal In 2009 FIFA Club World Cup Final Gives FC Barcelona Trophy

FC Barcelona had to wait until the 110th minute of their 2009 FIFA Club World Cup final game against South American giants Estudiantes in Abu Dhabi to get in front with a brilliant Lionel Messi goal, and finally end up as world champions.
Estudiantes first took the lead through a bullet header from Mauro Boselli on 37 minutes to make the score line 1-0 in their favor, after Barcelona midfielder Xavi Hernandez’s appeal for a penalty 10 minutes earlier was overruled. In fact, watching the replay, it is quite clear that as Juan Diaz made the cross into the danger zone, Boselli was located in an offside position before heading the ball past an ignorant Valdes.
Somehow, the referee failed to get a close on Boselli’s move, and the UEFA Champions League title holders suddenly found theirselves behind.
The battle kept going on for the Catalans in search of an equalizer which would eventually get them back into the game, but things just seemed to be out of their control.
The Swedish striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic, as well as his helpers behind tried all they could, but still, the South American champions maintained their lead.
Second half substitute Pedro Rodriguez had a few chance to put his side back on track, but his touches on the ball weren’t efficient enough to make a change in the encounter.
However, with a single minute to go in normal time, Pedro redeemed himself. A powerful long ball from Ibrahimovic reached Pique, who headed the ball towards an unmarked Pedro, only for the Spaniard to loop the ball past the Estudiantes keeper through a sweet header.
FC Barcelona had gotten the equalizer, yet, there was still a long way to go…
The extra time then began, but the Spanish champions Barcelona were not ready to give up their unstoppable attacks; and as Estudiantes were playing more and more negatively, the European kings were using more and more energy.
Nonetheless, on 110 minutes, the dream of clinching a third cup this season was realized for Barcelona thanks to an incomprehensible goal from the Argentine wonder kid Lionel Messi.
The Brazilian cross-expert Dani Alves sent a fast ball which could have a flew just across the face of goal, but in some way, Lionel Messi managed to sprint about 20 yards to reach the right area in time and brilliantly chest the ball goalwards from 3 yards.
It was truly over for Estudiantes, FC Barcelona were in front, and there was no way they were going to let things happen; rather, they were aiming to make them happen.
In the end, the score line remained 2-1 in favor of FC Barcelona against Estudiantes, and following great goals from Pedro Rodriguez and Lionel Messi, FC Barcelona finished their campaign in the tournament with the 2009 FIFA Club World Cup trophy.
Now, a question appears: “Do FC Barcelona really deserve to be crowned as 2009 FIFA Club World Cup Champions after they controversially forced their way through the final against Chelsea in the UEFA Champions League several months ago?â€

Honestly, I think Barcelona didn’t deserve to reach the 2009 FIFA Club World Cup tournament… Not that they cheated against Estudiantes or whatsoever, but their attitude against Chelsea was sooo bad! Gosh…
