Copa del Rey Final: Barcelona 4-1 Athletic Bilbao – Lionel Messi Scores

Barcelona celebrating after winning the Spanish Copa del ReyIt was an overwhelming moment for Barcelona fans when their team held the Copa del Rey trophy after beating Athletic Bilbao in the final at the Mestalla Stadium, yesterday night.

Actually, the game was hotter than many wanted it to be, as Barcelona came from a goal down to crush their opponents 4-1.

Without doubt, the game was definitely a good one for Pep Guardiola and his players, and once again, Lionel Messi took his chance of getting his name on the scoring sheet. He gave Barcelona the lead by scoring his side’s second goal, minutes after Yaya Toure equalized for the Catalans. This now makes him one of Europe’s best scorers with 37 goals for his club this season, so far; five more goals will therefore be enough to equal Cristiano Ronaldo’s goal record, last year.

Certainly not a bad attempt there from the Barcelona wonder boy; eventually, his efforts surely give him reasons to expect awards at the end of this year. However, as he waits patiently for what could be his best moments in his life, he has something that can make him proud: a deserved cup after three years of unrewarding hard work.

Indeed, he has all the right to feel delighted that his side was able to get their first trophy since 2006, as most of Barcelona’s achievement were made trough his help. Thus, no one can deny the strong influence of Lionel Messi in his team; Leo’s five goals scored in the Catalans’ previous matches of the Copa del Rey were undoubtedly of great value.

Nevertheless, the most amazing thing right now, is that Lionel Messi was capable of increasing his tally to six goals in the competition, with the one he got yesterday night in the King’s Cup final.
This is absolutely incredible, nonetheless, his celebrations will not last too long, as work still needs to be done in the league, and in the Champions League.
