Lionel Messi: El Clasico Was Not About Me Against Cristiano Ronaldo

Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo PicturesFollowing Lionel Messi’s goal in the 2-0 defeat of Real Madrid in El Clasico, journalists rushed to ask Messi is he felt like he had beaten Cristiano Ronaldo in terms of individual battle. In response to their questions, this is what the Barcelona star declared.

“It wasn’t about that (Cristiano Ronaldo v Lionel Messi). FC Barcelona were superior to Real Madrid, and that’s all that matters.

“We gained three very important points at the Bernabeu Stadium. We are leading La Liga alone, and now we have a real advantage for the rest of the tournament.

“As for the Champions League? Let’s go one step at a time and we can make more history. A lot more – if it comes our way, but we need to keep on working hard to clinch cups.”

Lionel Messi didn’t score in the 3-0 win of Barcelona at home to Deportivo La Coruna, but he is still the top scorer of La Liga with 27 goals. Barcelona however have 6 more games to go in the competition, and Real Madrid could catch them if ever they missed vital points in the next weeks.
