Brazil’s ace Ricardo Kaka has tipped Barcelona’s Lionel Messi as the favorite to collect the prestigious FIFA Player of the Year award, which will be given during a ceremony on December 21.
“I think it (the award) is probably for Messi who won everything with Barcelona last year,” declared Kaka while speaking to Marca.
The Brazilian who now plays for Spanish League title contenders Real Madrid then went on to explain that his focus this season was more on helping his club and country to succeed, than looking to receive individual awards.
“You must have a good year with your club and national team. Next year it will be chosen from those who do well at the World Cup. My goal is that Brazil finishes as champion and then let’s think about individual awards.”
Kaka won the award two years ago, surpassing reigning Fifa Player of the Year Cristiano Ronaldo, and two-times runner-up Lionel Messi.
