Tonight’s Champions League match will feature the giant Catalans Barcelona, and the Blues of London Chelsea. In other words, it will present two teams who met 3 times in the last four years. Most meetings were pretty much considered as the “shocks” of the tournament, and this time, things could be totally indifferent…

Barcelona’s astonishing form

Barcelona have been the surprise package in Europe this season, after bouncing back from their terrible form last season while they were still coached under Frank Rikjaard. They were disqualified from the Champions League in the semi-finals of the competition following their defeat to the Red Devils Manchester United; however, this season under Pep Guardiola, the 2006 European champions are back on track.

After being cupless for two consecutive seasons, winning trophies has been the club’s major target. So far, the Catalans have been able to grab 82 points from 34 games in the league, and they have also managed to reach the final of the Copa Del Rey. Talking about their road to European glory, Barcelona have been able to carry on with their flood of goals; forcing their way to the semi-finals of the tournament.

Barcelona’s last Champions League games resulted in the unexpected. Having destroyed Lyon in the last 16, they were extremely poised to repeat their success in the quarterfinals. They were 4-0 winners in their first leg encounter at the Camp Nou Stadium; and eventually, a draw at the Arena Stadium was just satisfying for Pep Guardiola’s boys.

Indeed, the Barcelona players have achieved more than anyone thought they could, nevertheless, they still have to finish what they started. This could be noting really interesting, but when an opponent as strong as Chelsea comes in the way, attention is needed.

The Catalans must be definitely aware of the threat posed by the Londoners; therefore, their manager has declared that he would give anything to avoid an upset. Surely, there is no doubt that the Camp Nou ace Lionel Messi will have to give his all to ensure that the attack is relentless.

The Barcelona playmaker has been at his best the whole of this season, scoring 34 goals in all. Messi is also currently favorite to be the Champions League’s top scorer, having 8 goals in his name; and lately, his amazing dribbling skills haven’t stop impressing football fans, so much so that the world’s greatest defenders have refused to deny his talent.

Of course, this also applies itself to Chelsea’s defense, and certainly, manager Guus Hiddink will have to gather all his strengths to prevent his side from falling into the hands of the team known as: “The Mighty Barcelona”.

Well, in the long run, one could think that the match could go either way; nonetheless, Barcelona are firmly expected to take the advantage, as the game will take place in their own home.

They really need to be careful though, for up to now, they seem to have it all, but one upset tonight could make them loose it all…
