Being the best footballer of the year doesn’t make one player complete and perfect. And for Lionel Messi, his biggest weakness is to execute penalties.

This season, Messi had 6 chances to do penalty shots with Barcelona. However, he failed twice, which about 35 % of the chance.

The first failure was last year against Sevilla, right at a critical injury time. His second time was last Wednesday against Valencia at first leg Copa semi final, where Diego Alves succeeded in blocking the shot.

” Messi is the type of players that have no variety in ball placement. It means, he tend to kick at the same direction. He doesn’t have special tricks. I’ve been observing him back in Almeria. That time, I failed to stop him, but this time, I was lucky,”said Alves.

The fact has showed that Messi always using his left foot to do penalties. The ball tends to direct on the left side of goalie. Many Spanish and European goalkeeper have learned  Messi’s characteristic in penalties. And it proves on his total 20 execution shots, he failed 7th of it. In percentage, he again failed around 35 % of chances. For the winner of Balon D’Or 3 consecutive year, it considers  a bad record.

Let’s take a look at Cristiano Ronaldo penalties record. During his whole football career, he had 38 shots, and missed ONLY 4 of them. It was about 10% of the chances. He even gets better with Real Madrid. Wearing the Whites uniform, he had total 24 chances of the shot. Yet, he only missed 1 time,  and that’s about 4% from the chances. Now that’s what I call a complete player. Fantastic !! And I’m not even starts with his free-kick record..!!=)
