Cristiano Ronaldo’s recent statements towards Lionel Messi’s chances of winning the Ballon d’Or were quite surprising to some football fans, as the Real Madrid winger declared that Messi deserved the Ballon d’Or more than anyone else this season.

Being asked again on his opinion towards this case, Ronaldo justified his points, specifying that the UEFA Champions League trophy that Barcelona were able to clinch last season was the main reason why Lionel Messi or any other Barca player could expect to win the Ballon d’Or.

“In winning the Champions League, it is more likely that a player from Barca will win the Ballon d’Or,” he explained.

“If Manchester (United) had won the title, they’d probably give it to one of United’s (players).

“Right now (Andres) Iniesta, Xavi and (Lionel) Messi are playing well.”

Cristiano Ronaldo then shifted his attention to Barcelona and Real Madrid’s rivalry, affirming that he was not afraid of the Catalans’ form, and that he wouldn’t hesitate to oppose himself to any suggestion opening the way for a Barcelona player to play along side him with Los Blancos.

“I am not scared of them at all and I am certain we are going to be fighting to try and beat them,” Cadena SER. quoted him saying.

“We have got a great squad and I would not sign anyone from Barcelona.”
