The Barcelona number 10 player Lionel Messi has beaten Cristiano Ronaldo to win the Onze d’Or Award. Among the nominees for the award – which is decided by readers of the French football magazine Onze Mondial – were also Valdes, Alves, Pique, Puyol, Toure, Xavi, Iniesta, Ibrahimovic and Henry; as well as eight other players from Manchester United.
Nevertheless, in the end, it was Lionel Messi who went on to get the public’s favor.
Reports say that Messi has now joined the list of the world’s best players of all times, as he has been able to get this honor – previously awarded to legends such as Michel Platini, Diego Maradona, Zinedine Zidane and Luis Ronaldo.
Real Madrid’s star Cristiano Ronaldo won the Onze d’Or award last year after surpassing his rival Messi in the votings. Well, in did not seem to be case this time around, as Lionel Messi looked to grab one more gift in preparation for his top moment later this year, when he gets the prestigious Fifa Player of the Year award.
Messi has already won great trophies this season such as the Trofeo Alfredo Di Stefano, the Premio Don Balon and the UEFA Club Footballer of the Year.
