Lionel Messi played wickedly against Arsenal at the Camp Nou yesterday in the Champions League, as Barcelona destroyed the Gunners 4-1 at home, and 6-3 on aggregate.
The dangerous side of Lionel Messi was made visible on 3 minutes when the forward shot from a tight angle inside the area. Happily for Arsenal, Almunia was at his post to tip the ball away.
Messi again raised the fans watching the game on their feet when he drove a curling ball toward the top corner of the net, but the ball flew inches wide.
Bizarrely, Nicklas Bendtner of Arsenal first put visitors in front with a strange goal from a controversial build-up, after Milito was harshly tackled in the midfield.
Lionel Messi then replied with a great strike from 25-yards out to equalize for Barcelona.
Messi first went for the option of passing inside the penalty area, but Sylvester failed to make a clearance, and Messi blasted the ball home eventually.
1-1 was the score line for Barcelona against Arsenal.
Minutes later, Lionel Messi punished Arsenal again for a poor performance by getting his second goal of the night.
A brilliant play upfront allowed Messi to get rid of his marker before beating Almunia to make the score 2-1.
On 42 minutes, Messi scored a hat-trick.
The Barcelona ace was placed through in the Arsenal half, and being unmarked, Messi only had to sprint goalwards and loop the ball past Almunia.
The goal was surprising, and there was nothing Arsenal could do to stop it.
Messi had a chance to crush Arsenal again before the first 45 minutes had passed, but a bad touch rescued the Gunners.
3-1 the score line was at the break.
After the break, Barcelona appeared to be unwilling to score.
Messi tried a few out-of-this-world runs, skipping past 4 to 5 defenders; but he wasn’t able to knock the target.
He however got a fourth goal on 88 minutes, after a piece of outstanding individual efforts. His initial attempt was stopped by Almunia, but on the rebound, the ball crossed the goal line, as Messi found the right space to send the ball between the goalkeeper’s legs.
In the end, Messi scored all the four goals for Barcelona against Arsenal, and thanks to this, he now has 8 goals in the Champions League, which is enough to be the top scorer ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo.
