Argentina's Lionel Messi and Gonzalo Higuain to face Peru

On Saturday October 10, places for the South African FIFA 2010 World Cup could be decided in the South American zone, as a loss for Argentina against Peru would be the end of Diego Maradona and Lionel Messi’s hope to play in the prestigious tournament next summer.

Consequently, this is not something the football legend and “El Mesias” will want to let to happen… therefore, a well-equiped side could make positive things happen.

Some Argentina fans tend to blame the Argentine defense for being so weak and sloppy, while others throw the blame on the midfield which is said to be detached; but many often address their critics to the attack which is considered as unproductive.

Indeed, with a set of players such Lionel Messi and Aguero, it is very surprising that none of them is able to emulate his great deeds in Europe and give the Albicelestes valuable points. However, manager Maradona declared lately that he would do the changes needed to push his side to the World Cup.

Thus, after Argentina’s 2-0 victory against Ghana last week, the match’s only goal scorer Martin Palermo was expected to get a place in Maradona’s starting line-up for the country’s crucial match against Peru; but then, with only a few days left ahead of the encounter, it is Real Madrid’s Gonzalo Higuain who seems to get the manager’s favor.

Following Higuain’s hard work for his club, reports publicize that the Madrid player will now get the chance to partner alongside future World Player of the Year Lionel Messi upfront.

Normally, anyone can expect much from this combination in attack, and hence, the pressure could turn out to be on the Peruvian defense, who will have to contain some of the world’s best players.

Well, in the long run, in Saturday’s encounter, Argentina will then be able to be regarded again as the favorites; but however, it is a good work from Diego Maradona, Lionel Messi, Gonzalo Higuain and the rest of the team which will prove if the Albicelestes have really bounced back from their recent disappointing form or not.
