Bolatti’s late winner surely made Argentine fans happy, but Barcelona’s forward Lionel Messi didn’t really had a good time on the pitch, as he was criticize by supporters on another occasion for failing to produce something special for his country.
Messi barely touched the ball in the first 45 minutes of the game, but an unlucky Uruguayan side was unable to put the ball at the back of the net to punish Argentina for their unprofessional style of play.
No matter what he felt during the game, Messi declared after the match that what mattered the most was to be guarantied of place in next year’s World Cup, even if his own fans in Argentina didn’t bother to throw critics at him without trying to understand his situation in every aspect.
In the end, it looks more like it was fate that enabled the Albicelestes to qualify for the 2010 Fifa World Cup instead of hard work; nonetheless, as for Lionel Messi, it seems the support coming from his fans in his own country is fading away as time goes by.
